Black Basil Infused Lemonade

Mens Health Libido Testosterone booster Performance

When summer kicks up, you already know it's lemonade season.

Growing up, you couldn't find me without a can of Country Time Lemonade causing trouble through my high school halls. Then Florida introduced me to Simply Lemonade, and I was convinced nothing could beat standing in my first apartment kitchen, drinking straight from the jug.

As I've gotten older, I've started paying a little more attention to what goes into the foods and drinks I consume. I realized those store-bought lemonades were packed with ingredients I couldn't pronounce, preservatives I didn't recognize, and way more sugar than they needed.

So I decided to make my own.

This Black Basil Infused Lemonade keeps things simple: fresh lemons, fragrant basil, spring water, activated charcoal, and your choice of sweetener. I usually reach for agave because it dissolves easily and lets the bright citrus flavor shine, but honey, maple syrup, cane sugar, or your favorite sweetener all work beautifully.

The flavor is everything I want from a summer lemonade. Bright and refreshing from the lemons, naturally sweet without being overpowering, with just enough basil to add a subtle herbal finish that keeps you coming back for another glass. The activated charcoal gives it that deep black color that always gets people talking without changing the flavor in any noticeable way.

A quick note on the activated charcoal: it's used here primarily for its dramatic appearance. While activated charcoal is often discussed for its ability to bind to certain substances, it can also bind to medications and some nutrients if consumed at the same time. If you take prescription medications or supplements, it's best to enjoy this drink several hours apart from them.

Whether you're hosting a backyard barbecue, heading to a picnic, or just trying to survive a hot afternoon, this is the pitcher you'll want sitting on the table. It's simple, refreshing, and guaranteed to spark a conversation before anyone even takes their first sip.

Come back and let me know what you think.

I never thought I'd say it, but this one officially takes the crown from Country Time.

  • Use fresh lemons. Bottled lemon juice won't give you the same brightness.

  • Start with less sweetener and adjust to taste after adding the water.

  • Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving so the basil has time to lightly infuse.

  • Stir before pouring, as the activated charcoal will naturally settle over time.

  • Garnish with fresh basil leaves and lemon slices for presentation.
